Understanding Your Teen
When a teen is struggling, it can be difficult to know what is really going on.
Anxiety, depression, ADHD, perfectionism, emotional overwhelm, school avoidance, low motivation, or relationship difficulties are often the concerns that bring families to therapy. While these labels can be helpful, they do not always explain why a teen is struggling.
Every young person has a unique temperament, personality, nervous system, developmental history, family dynamic, and way of experiencing the world. Two teens may share the same diagnosis while needing very different kinds of support.
For this reason, I begin therapy with a holistic assessment process designed to develop a deeper understanding of the individual behind the symptoms.
Together, we explore factors that may be influencing a teen's emotional well-being, including their relationships, strengths, challenges, learning profile, nervous system patterns, identity development, and life experiences. This process can help uncover underlying contributors to difficulties that may otherwise be overlooked, including ADHD, neurodivergence, anxiety, perfectionism, stress, burnout, or unresolved emotional challenges.
The goal is not simply to determine what is wrong.
The goal is to understand who your teen is, what they are experiencing, and what they need in order to thrive.
This deeper understanding creates the foundation for a more personalized and effective therapeutic experience—one that supports meaningful growth, resilience, self-awareness, and long-term well-being.
If you are looking for thoughtful, individualized support for your teen, I invite you to schedule a complimentary consultation. Together, we can explore whether this approach is the right fit for your family.
